“Extended exposure times theoretically include more detail, like several frames from a movie camera, yet the movement of the camera simultaneously confuses detail, creating broad strokes to manipulate the act of perception.

These hidden correspondences between rational and emotion, between technique and subject, are at constant play in photography, where there is an obligation to use the actual, but none to report the truth. The removal of detail starts a dialogue between perceived reality and imagination.

Commuter trains carry millions of people every day at speeds of up to 250km/h. Looking through the window at the environment, detail diminishes until there is only an impressionist panorama. In this dynamic visual chaos, searching for archetypes reveals unexpected responses.”

This series of pictures was taken in Germany from 2006 to 2008.
